There are different types of pipe used for air. The recommended use for air is Aluminum Pipe:
Latest technology (are push to connect aluminum pipe) it is light-weight, making it easy to handle compared to schedule 40 or 80 pipe. It is recommended for clean air applications and is non-corrosive.
Other Types of Air Piping
Stainless Steel – to minimize corrosion has a long and successful history – combines all strength and durability og black pipe. Victaulic fittings are installed with a rubber seal and bolted clamp.
Copper Pipe is commonly recommended for clean air, it works well, and it is expensive.
Black Pipe is the most commonly used pipe – it is strong and durable; but it will produce rust contamination.
Galvanized Pipe: commonly used for water distribution and for general plumbing; galvanized coating resists moisture in compressed air, but pieces of the coating will flake off (not recommended for compressed air).
PVC Pipe – not recommended for compressed air; though readily available and inexpensive. PVC gets brittle over time and can crack, break, or even shatter.
